I was brought up in the Isle of Man, surrounded by beautiful mountains, glens and coves. Later, I travelled abroad to many remote areas. My love of landscapes owes much to the memories of these places. I took up painting seriously after retiring from academia and public service.
The stimulus for my work comes from plein air painting, which I do on my own and with a local group. I have been very influenced by the North American tradition of plein air painting.
I am an active member of the Colchester Art Society and have participated in their exhibitions since 2013. I also enjoy landscape photography, which is a natural complement to the painting, and am an active member of the Colchester Photographic Society.
